Cnc Lathe

Lathe is a metal processing tool which generates cylindrical and symmetrical materials. Initially lathes were used only for metals but today they are also used for cutting wood, plastic and other materials. To cut the metal or any other material such as plastic, wood etc., the material is placed in the chuck of the lathe and the chuck is then rotated. The cutting tool can be rotated in 3 dimensions thus achieving precision of the end product.

There are certain things that need to be considered while using CNC lathes. The rotating speed is the rpm of the chuck and it can rotate at really high speeds producing high precision shapes. But since a small mistake may produce a defective chunk of pieces, it is always advisable to rotate the machine at lower speeds. This will help reduce defects. Cutting depth of the machine will determine the life of the cutting tool. Deep cutting depths increase speed but may wear and tear the tool fast. So, it is advisable to set the depth to a smaller value. Lastly the sending speed of the tool also affects the quality of the end product. A high sending speed will quicken the process and a low sending speed will produce a smooth and fine end product.

Benefits of CNC Lathe machines are that you can produce large quantities with less effort. Once the program has been created, it can be stored and re-used. You many simply need to do some test run and start with mass production. Due to little human intervention there are less quality issues and standard products can be expected.

Companies such as Hargo Engineering use CNC machining to produce high precision components and they have been operating and serving the Australian manufacturing sector for more than 30 years. Visit www.hargo.com.au for more information.
