How To Choose Between: Dog Vs Cat

Choosing between cat and dog would hardly turn to be a problem if your taste is definite. However it may become a tough dilemma for those who feel the same to both pets. In this case practical issues should be taken into account to make a right choice. Below are the main points that need to be considered when choosing between cat or dog:

  1. Home space. Dogs typically need more space to run, while cats can be happy in a smaller apartment.
  2. Walks. A dog will need to be taken for regular walks - normally twice a day. However cats don't need it and you may keep them within flat without going out at all.
  3. Time to devote. Cats are independent creatures who need very little care, whereas dogs will require much more training and supervision. No matter what kind of dog you get, you have to spend a lot of time with them. They want you to play with them and take them for walks. So if you have tough full time employment which let you to be at home only for 2-3 hours a day (excluding sleep time) the dog is not for you. Cats on the other hand are much more independent. As long as they have food, water, and some toys, they're happy. This is great for people always on the go.
  4. Your own personality. If you are more sociable person and look forward to being greeted enthusiastically at the end of the day, then you dog will better fit your needs. Cat owners, however, tend to be calmer and more introverted. They want a pet who is as low-maintenance as they are.
  5. Furniture damage. Dogs tend to get into everything so if you get a puppy be prepared for some destruction. Cats are not as rambunctious, but they do like to claw things. If you're the type to spend a lot of money on all your furniture, definitely keep that in mind.
  6. Expenditures. Of course it definitely depends on the size of the pet but in most cases cats require less food than dogs (excluding tiny types of dogs), so costs on cat will be lower. Veterinar and general maintenance costs are also higher for dogs than for cats.
  7. Neatness. Cats are significantly neater than dogs, as they used to clean themselves. However dogs need to be washed regularly.
  8. Skills. Dogs are more intelligent and therefore much more easily trained to do things, such as to protect the home and even warn of danger. They can remember up to 50 commands and learn quickly. Cats remember far fewer commands and many are unable to recognize their owner by sight alone. Meaning if you leave your house and close the door the cat does not understand that you are still outside the door. Dogs on the other hand understand that you will be coming home and anticipate your arrival.
