Taper Collet
I am an engineer and i have to ask a stupid question lol.?

A drawbar on a milling machine is the part you screw with spanners into the taper of the collet chuck isnt it? I keep thinking of a mandrel but i cannot think what it is? I think its part of a Drive Plate for a lathe but i'm not sure. If i've used any incorrect names for anything please let me know.

Cheers
onepintcan- i'm actually just an apprentice so eh kindly shut your mouth and i dont think my terminolgy is that bad if at all any is wrong.
Could you elaborate a bit more on the mandrel please? Is a mandrel just a CNC thing or is it used in conventional? What does it look like ?
Right so a mandrel is the thing that would hold the tool on horizontal milling?
Cheers all for the answersso far
So could the mandrel be the taper on the chuck? Its not a morse taper shaft on the milling machine is it?
So turning between centres using a running centre and a headstock centre would be classed as a mandrel?

The drawbar is used to pull (draw) the collet which closes or opens collet or holds a chuck in place. A mandrel is inserted into a part to provide internal support. A mandrel may be clasped in a collet or supported by a center. The center is used to position a part for lathe/turning operations. It can be used to support the part directly or a mandrel internal to the part.

An arbor is used to extend cutting tools such as a drill.

The machinish posting earlier should know better than an engineer. I know way too many engineers who wouldn't know a drawbar it if hit them in the face.
